Project Overview
The wonderful team over at Create Uplift reached out to me to help out with a campaign for their client, DCCCA. DCCCA is a non-profit organization that provides programs and services to improve the safety and well-being of their community. Their latest campaign was focused on medication safety, and they needed a 30-second PSA as well as two shorter 10-second cuts for social media. The turnaround time was 3 weeks, and I was provided a voiceover.
Design
The client had an established brand but didn't need the PSA to strictly follow it, so I was given a lot of freedom in where to go with this project. I started by studying other work in the medical/healthcare field to find some common trends.
There were a lot of sucessful styles that I felt like could work with this project, but we decided on a mixed media look. I think this was the most eye-catching option and would really make the PSA stand out, especially on social media.
A big part of the design process was deciding how and when to utilize images. I brought elements like a lockbox and padlock to drive home the message of locking up your medications.
Execution
With the design nailed down, it was time to bring this PSA to life.

BG texture

One of my favorite things about a mixed media style is being able to experiment with different frame rates to give the video a stylized, stop motion look. I have elements like the paper texture in the background and the border around the images moving a different frame rates to bring an organic feeling to the piece.
To further push the stop motion aspect, I animated elements like the lock and lockbox by using specific stop frames instead of showing a continuous movement.
That's all folks!
I had a blast working on this project. Besides it being for an important cause, mixed media is one of my favorite styles to work with, and I really felt like I could let my creativity run free with this one. Peep the social media cuts below.
