Project Overview
Working with Create Uplift team again, I created these video assests for DCCCA's newest campaign focused on the Kratom ban in Kansas. They needed a 30-second PSA as well as two shorter 15-second cuts for social media. The turnaround time was 2 weeks, and I was provided a voiceover.
Design
I kept this PSA similar to the mixed media style of the medication safety campaign I worked on, but brought in some different textures and vector elements to play on the natural origins of Kratom. I also leaned into DCCCA's green color to add to that feel as well. Overall, I think this created a more rustic and warm tone.
This PSA was also more text-heavy with a lot of core messaging that needed to be reinforced by text. Because of this, I chose Halyard to be the main font. It's a bold sans-serif font, but I think it has a little more character and personality that added some warmth.
Execution
With the design nailed down, it was time to bring this PSA to life.

BG texture

One of my favorite things about a mixed media style is being able to experiment with different frame rates to give the video a stylized, stop motion look. I have elements like the paper texture in the background and the border around the images moving a different frame rates to bring an organic feeling to the piece.
To further push the stop motion aspect, I animated elements like the lock and lockbox by using specific stop frames instead of showing a continuous movement.
That's all folks!
I had a blast working on this project. Besides it being for an important cause, mixed media is one of my favorite styles to work with, and I really felt like I could let my creativity run free with this one. Peep the social media cuts below.
