I started these blog posts as assignments for my Digital Design class, and I didn’t think I’d keep it up, but I thought why not. I recently created a new logo animation for my website and thought it would be the perfect post for a bite size blog post.

In my research, I’d seen a couple animations that used the full name, but I wanted to incorporate my existing logo. I knew this logo animation needed to be subtler than a traditional logo animation because it is living on my website header. Initially, I wanted to do something with the S wrapping around the E but I thought this would break up the image for too long and you wouldn’t be able to tell what it was. I eventually settled on this simple pivot motion. I think it adds some character to the website without it being distracting.
One challenge I ran into was keeping the right parts of the S and E behind or in front of one another and keeping it consistent while it moved. I messed around with different combinations of masks and mattes until figuring out something that worked.

From there, it was pretty simple rotation keyframing. To make life easier, I linked the rotation keyframes on the "E" to the "E Matte" to make sure the animation stayed synced. With the logo done, I knew I wanted a cool way to demonstrate how the logo would look on the website (and give a little promo too😉).
For that video, I took a screen recording of my website and put the logo over the video. With some basic 3D camera keyframing, I got this really cool zoom in and out look.

This was a fun mini-project to keep my skills sharp and help me build my brand. I love what I was able to do with the project and had fun figuring out how to show it off, too.
